Doctor Biography
Dr. Niaz
Abdur-Rahman, a pioneer in Vitreo Retina in Bangladesh, is currently the
Managing Director of Bangladesh Eye Hospital. Born in Dhaka and educated in
England, he completed his medical graduation from Sher-e-Bangla Medical
College, Barisal, and obtained a Diploma in Ophthalmology from the National
Institute of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Rahman
furthered his expertise with a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship in the USA,
earning a Masters of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University. He also
completed a Clinical Retina Vitreous Fellowship at the University of British
Columbia, Canada.
In 1988, Dr.
Rahman established the first Retina Clinic in Bangladesh at Islamia Eye
Hospital and performed the country’s first vitrectomy operation. He later
founded the Retina Foundation and Eye Center in Dhaka, which has significantly
contributed to eye care related to posterior segment disorders.
Dr. Rahman
co-founded Bangladesh Eye Hospital in 2004, the only sub-specialty based
tertiary care eye hospital in the country. He has attended over 60
international conferences and has numerous national and international
publications to his credit.
